A Brief Update

I just wanted to put out a few summer updates:

A lot of my summers have been a time for respite and a mental break from the craziness of the school year. I usually work, but not too much, and practice when I can — but I mostly spend time doing things I never have time to do during the fall/winter/spring days. So I guess this summer is a bit different.

I have grad school to get ready for, I need to nail down a place to live, I need to practice A LOT, I am touring for 22 days with the Heartland Marimba Ensemble, I fly to Poland for 10 days, I am going to try to work 50-60 hours a week during July and August, and I have to budget more than I ever have (its a good thing I like PBR).

But that’s the way I want it. Life is FULL and showing me more opportunities than ever before but that doesn’t make it any less draining. I’d say my ‘adult’ life thus far has been on the fairly chill side. It’s time to buckle down and do what needs to be done.

However, even though I find myself loading up with tasks, I’ve found how important it is for me to still set aside time and money for the things and people that keep me sane. I still climb as much as I can, I watch superhero shows with my mom, I go out with friends. It’s not complete frugalness, but it keeps me from burning out. I’ve made the conscious decision to work and save as hard as I can, but not at the expense of who I am.

So that’s my summer update for now. Maybe try to catch me on tour with the Heartland Marimba Ensemble! I’ll be posting updates about that experience and concerts when I can. I’ll be back for four days and then I fly out the Katarzyna Marimba Academy. I get an email from Boston about what to expect for next year really soon and I think I may have found a place to live as well (fingers crossed)!

So before this summer ends, lets grab a drink, catch up, and enjoy the summer amidst the insanity that is life.
